We take the health & safety element of our business very seriously and ensure this is prioritised above all else. We have the following in place to ensure the health & safety of our team, other trades and the public.
- SJJ Scaffolding hold accreditations and are registered with CISRS, CITB, CHAS, SMAS, SafeContractor and ConstructionLine. All accreditations applications and memberships are renewed and updated annually.
- All of our team are CISRS trained and hold CISRS cards. These are kept up to date and assessed every 5 years.
- We erect our scaffold in accordance with the latest and most up to date TG20:21 (Technical Guidance). All of our supervisors carry a TG20:21 handbook to refer to if required
- We follow the latest and most up to date SG4:15 (Safety Guidance). All of our supervisors carry a SG4:14 handbook to refer to if required.
- We carry out and supply risk assessments and method statements for all of our contracted sites. We also have in house risk assessments and method statements for our company premises.
- Once the scaffolding is fully erect, a handover certificate will be issued to confirm the scaffold is safe and ready for use.
- We complete weekly site inspections on all contracted works.
- As a company we hold £10mil Employers and £5mil Product and Public liability Insurances.
- We conduct a wide range of Tool Box Talks (TBTs) with the team on a regular basis. These are carried out every couple of weeks to keep our knowledge fresh and up to date. Toolbox talks cover a wide range of subjects from, accidental safety, electrical, tools, equipment and rules. This is additional knowledge and training carried out aside to qualifications and training completed by our employees every 5 years.
- We supply all of our team with the recommended PPE and uniform and these are checked visually on a daily basis. As soon as there is any damage to any PPE or uniform that could potentially restrict its safety abilities these are replaced.
- In line with our accreditation requirements we carry out a full detailed inspection on all of our equipment and tools on a 3 monthly basis. We then conduct reports of our findings and keep records of this for 5 years.
- Equipment is always visually inspected on every occasion of use, this includes when it leaves the premises, before it is used and once it is returned.
- Any equipment which does not pass either our daily inspection or detailed quarterly inspection is either repaired, or disposed of.
- All our vehicles at SJJ are insured, Taxed and MOTed as and when they should be. We have fleet insurance covering all our vehicle which are used on the roads.
- We hold our own Operators Licence which allows us to run 6 lorries and 3 trailers. Having an Operator's Licence requires our company and lorry drivers to comply and maintain health and safety regulations when driving a lorry.
- Our lorry drivers have to carry out and fill in daily walk around defect sheets to maintain vehicle safety and be knowledgeable to these guides on a daily basis. Our lorries also have to have PMI’s (Periodic Maintenance Inspection’s) every 6-10 weeks in accordance with requirements.
- We have 9 company policies that we abide to, that outline the rules and regulations that we expect our employees to comply with; Health and Safety Environmental, Modern Slavery Quality, Equal Opportunities, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Mobile and Handheld Devices, Daily Walk around, Drivers Checks and Alcohol and Drugs.
